How to Improve Cellular Service to Railroad Passengers

VEGA High Gain Narrow Beam Antennas Do The Job

Even when you are moving at 250 kilometers per hour on Russian Railroads new SAPSAN service between Moscow and St. Petersburg you want excellent voice and data service on your mobile.

Passengers on modern high-speed rail lines will be spending much of their time on line.

Providing them with a good seamless connection is a tricky business.

Handsets in closed, fast moving trains demand a strong signal both on downlink and uplink.

Even the Wi-Fi service inside the cart requires decent cellular QOS.

Cellular operators face a major challenge on this issue with limited available network resources along the rail lines, operators need solutions that are both low CAPEX and readily available.

As demonstrated herein, the easiest low CAPEX solution is the installation of very high gain, very narrow beam antennas on the towers along the rail line instead of standard panel antennas.

This solution is also a "classic" one, providing good QOS to passengers in fast moving cars on major highways.

Russia's leading cellular operator solved this issue successfully by using Comarcom’s VEGA Mx Very High Gain Very Narrow Beam antennas on dozens of selected BTS along the route.

With a gain of 23 (!) dBi and horizontal and vertical Beam width of 11°VEGA CMP -12 X -pole antennas insure strong signal both on downlink and uplink to passengers on fast moving trains.
